Where does the weather data come from?
From MET Norway Locationforecast 2.0 (CC BY 4.0). We request the forecast at the summit coordinates with the summit altitude parameter, so temperature is already adjusted to that elevation.
How often is the data updated?
Weather forecasts are fetched automatically every 3 hours. Rinjani hiker counts from the official BTNGR website are fetched at most once an hour.
Is this an official BMKG warning?
No. This is automatically processed numerical model output. Always check BMKG for official warnings.
What do the Good, Caution and Poor ratings mean?
The rating is calculated from daily values at the summit: Poor if wind ≥ 50 km/h, rain ≥ 20 mm, a thunderstorm signal, or feels-like ≤ −10 °C; Caution if wind 30–49 km/h, rain 5–19.9 mm, or feels-like ≤ 0 °C; otherwise Good. Details are on the methods page.
Does this site show volcano status?
No. Volcanic activity status (Normal/Waspada/Siaga/Awas) can only be confirmed at MAGMA Indonesia (PVMBG). We link to it on every volcano page.
Is the hiking trail open?
We never infer open/closed status. Every mountain page points to the manager's official announcements. See also SIMAKSI & quota info.
Where does the SIMAKSI and quota info come from?
Only from the official manager or government websites, with the date last checked. If an official site disallows automated access, we only link to its quota page. If there is no official online source yet, it says "check with the basecamp". (SIMAKSI is the Indonesian hiking permit.)
How accurate are the route distance and time estimates?
Distance and total ascent are calculated from OpenStreetMap route geometry and the Copernicus GLO-30 elevation model. Times (Tobler and Naismith) are pure moving time without breaks or a heavy pack, so real times are usually longer. Treat them as a rough guide.
Some data is wrong. How do I report it?
Email [email protected] with the mountain name, the incorrect data and a link to the official source.
Does this site collect personal data?
We do not use analytics tools and do not ask for accounts or forms. The site may show Google AdSense ads that can use cookies; see the Privacy Policy for details and how to opt out of personalised ads. Your ID/EN language choice is stored in a "lang" cookie on your device so the site remembers it.
